It has been a little over 2 month since I transitioned to complete self-employment. August 28th, 2015 was my last day at a job that no longer served me, my sanity, or my family & September 1st was my first day of complete self-employment! It was such a terrifying but exhilarating feeling!
It was a much needed change for my sanity & family but personally, I wanted to spend more time with my minions because they are growing like weeds and there was a smidge of mommy guilt in there too!
The transition to self-employment has not been without its own challenges so today I bring to you 3 tips on how to transition from full time employment to self-employment.
There will be times where you questions yourself, your business, & if you made the right choice. Initially, I questioned it almost daily because there is so much security in a consistent paycheck even if it is at a job you know you shouldn’t be at! But then I see my minions’ faces when they wake up and mommy’s home or when I get to sit at their table during lunch. I see the joy in their face because they get mommy home during the day! I realize was missing moments that I did not want to miss!
Now, I question why I didn’t do it sooner!
Our minions have recently turned two. It amazing how time has flown by & not long ago my hubby and I had a chat about how much our life has changed! Mainly the transition to a family of 4 life! We’ve been through 3 Nannies and 2 jobs each just to create some sense of balance for us and provide the life we believe our minions need.
Currently, I am self-employed and working mainly from home with some office hours during the week and my hubby works third shift with weekends off. It took some getting used to but we really both wanted to be there to see our kids hit the milestones.
During the time we both worked full time, the minions were with a nannies and it was extremely difficult for me as a new mom. The nannies did not work out & ultimately we decided to make some changes.
Never would I have thought that this is how things would be but in speaking to many other moms and families, flexibility is a major factor in family life!
How was your transition to having kids & what do you do to maintain the balance?
This month I celebrated both my birthday & the birthday of my beautiful twins! Our birthdays are only 3 days apart! #LuckyLibras Each year around my birthday, I like to take a look back and see what I've learned in the past year! Since my minions turned 2 this year, I've also started to look at how I've progressed as a mother this past year. It's so important to acknowledge & graciously appreciate the struggles we've faced! Looking back allows me to do just that!

5 Lessons Learned This Year
#1: I am a Rock Star!
I truly am and slowly I've been able to OWN it. It has not always been like this. After my twins were born the major transition and struggle to find "balance" too a major toll on my self esteem & confidence. As a new mom & chronic over acheiver, I felt like I needed to be the best & do it all! I fell into the 'PERFECTION TRAP' & so much in my life suffered from my marriage to my growing business & my friendships. My desire to be a great mom & get it right was coming from a good place but it went completely overboard! This past year, I've made a conscious effort to acknowledge my inability to do it all & work hard to meet myself where I am! My morning routine of yoga, meditation, affirmations, journaling, Reiki & prayer has really helped me to stay grounded & focused on my inner peace!
#2: Grab ahold of life NOW & make changes.
There is absolutrly no need to be unhappy! I repeat: there is no reason to be unhappy! You know when you're unhappy. You may not know exactly what is making you unhappy or what thr dreper issue maybe, thats where a Professional Therapist such as myself comes in, but I am sure that you do have some idea of what is bothering you! You simply start with what you do know & seek to discover what you don't yet know or understand, then you TAKE ACTION! Action is the most important part!
A year ago, I knew I was unhappy with my then full time job! I had my business and it was evolving but the job I was working to supplement my income no longer served me. In fact it was causing me so much stress that I was physically exhausted each night & instead of enjoying family time on the weekends, I spent that time recovering from my full time job & dreading mondays! It's not that the job or company was terrible, it's just that the place I was in as a new mom & with my life goals, the job no longer served me. I made the decision that I was going g to make some serious changes. I left that job a month & a half ago and am now in business for myself full time! I get to spend tons of quality time with my family & work solely with moms to help them decrease stress & find meaning after major life transitions! I'm living my dream but it took insight on my unhappiness & work to reach this point!
Decide to make changes now or you will be in the same place next year & the only guarantee is more unhappiness! Find those who can help you get to where you need to be & make some daily progress!
#3: My minions light up my life!
For real, I love being a mom so much more than I thought I would or could and I lovingly refer to them as minions! Only rarely do they live up to the nickname!
I was one of those people who said I wold never have kids! I was for good reason because I was freaked out by motherhood! Yet again, Perfectionism...I wanted everything to be perfect, including motherhood! If there is one major thing I've learned from my second year of being a Twin mom.....motherhood is never perfect!
I could sit for hours an watch as my minions discover their world! It amazes me how such a tiny being could be so open to a world they do not know & so resilient! Some days, if I think to hard, it amazes me that I am a mom of twins! Being truly present with them each moment is very important to me & although it is a struggle, when I'm able to do it, I am reminded of what a miracle they are & how they are teaching me so much more about life than I feel I am teaching them!
#4: I can't survive without my morning routine!
Seriously, I need it for my sanity! I use my mornings for my Nurture Time! Whether I have 5 minutes or an hour, I am able to do some variation of my nurture time & set my self up for a pretty good day! My full routine includes meditation, prayer self reiki, yoga, affirmations & journaling. I have a corner with pillows, my journal, incense, & my affirmations list! I use music to set the mood! My daily practice has help me tremendously because I tend to put myself last on my to do list! My nurture time, first thing in the morning guarantees that I fill my cup first so I have something to pour into others throughout the day! This has also become a part of my service to other moms! So many moms don't take time for themselves & if you put it off til the evening, you're too tired to really do it! I teach moms to put themselves first with no regrets only rewards!
#5: I'm becoming more like my mother & I'm okay with that!
I become more like my mother each day & I'm finally okay with that....she amazing, much of this I didn't know prior to having my own kids because I had no frame of reference but I'm so proud to hear the internal train of thought, each day that is in her voice that is leading my way as a women, mother, entrepreneur, & game changer! I now understand what it's like to love a little being so much that you only want to see them do good but know that life is full of experiences, struggles, trials, & triumphs! Balance is what most moms desire from their life but the truth is balance is relative & can only be defined by you! What's more important is self forgiveness, insight and self awareness, daily gratitude & flexibility!
Now it's your turn! What struggles & triumphs have you faced & overcome this year?
Are you overwhelmed, frustrated & seeking more? I'd love to hear your struggles & help you find the balance you are seeking and need for your sanity.
