Being social is an important part of our existence. With being social comes communication! Think about it, you spend most of your waking time actively engaging with other people. Whether your friends, family, or coworkers, you are talking with someone most of your day. Specifically, when you are able to have good communication with your spouse, life is so much better.
Take a moment to think about a time where communication was not so good between you and your husband....it sucked didn't it!
So how can you have better communication with your husband and ultimately decrease your stress at home?
Knowing when it is not working
A definite sign of bad communication is frequent arguments with your husband. Often, the anticipation of an argument results in a watered-down conversation that has no substance. Another signal of bad communication, is when you isolate yourself to avoid having to talk with your spouse. Please keep in mind that the occurrence of physical violence on the part of you or your spouse signals an abusive relationship and would require more than better communication.
What is “good communication”
Have you ever felt heard? Truly understood and heard? That is the classic sign of good communication! It is being present in a conversation, using a calm voice and allowing others to make their points. In a relationship where there is good or great communication, you can look at your spouse across a crowded room and know exactly what he is thinking! You can make eye contact and without the use of words, be on the same page with him!
Decreasing relationship stress
When you are able to talk to your husband without having an argument and feel completely understood, you will be more likely to talk to him! It’s the same for him! Better communication leads to deeper conversations and allows you to cultivate you friendship with your husband rather than being roommates! A relationship with good communication allows you to focus on your future, your children & your life goals!
Even if you’re experiencing a disconnection in your relationship now, it does not mean you have to stay there forever! You can turn things around if you act now & fast.
I would love to talk with you and figure out how you can improve your communication in your relationship & ultimately decrease your stress at home!
