It can be overwhelming to be a mom sometimes! Working to manage everyone else's schedule leaves little to no time for yourself & then "Negative Nettie" pops up! Don't let her take over! Beat her with the Positivity Train!
Are you ready to jump start your Positivity Train? Corny, I know, but it’s totally true! If you are looking to move from “Negative Nettie” to “Positive Polly” the answer is GRATITIUDE! I know, it seems so simple, be gracious, but gratitude does so much more for you. Not to mention the impression your children will get when they see Mom being positive!
Your kids are watching, what impression are you giving them?!
If you are actively working to practice gratitude through your day, each and every day, you will find that you become to focus more of the positive than the negative. You may think that this should just be easy, but our brains are hardwired to determine the negative in a situation. It’s a survival technique left over from cave man days! Because of it, you have to train your brain to think positive and that take repetition! It can be done! With practice, you will being to automatically think positively throughout your day and seemingly on cue!
Decrease Stress and Anxiety
So naturally, when you are focusing on the positive, you will be much happier and less worried. Positive thinking and actively engaging in the practice of gratitude can significantly decrease your stress and anxiety! You’re no longer focused on the negative, how can one be stressed or anxious about anything when you’re focused on the great things that are happening in your life? The answer: YOU CAN’T!
You need a Gratitude Journal
So I am sure you’re wondering where to start and how to start! First, start with a gratitude journal. This is simply a journal that you connect with visually where you write down what you are grateful for. It can be done in the evenings before you go to sleep at night or even in the morning as part of a well-rounded morning routine. Or Both!
Ready to try it?
Get your favorite journal and during your designated time, start with writing 3-5 (more if you have them) things you are grateful for. Don’t worry about how big or small they “seem”. It is completely personal to you. When you have moments when your positivity is low, take a look back at previous days and become inspired by all the great things going on in your life!
Mom Tip: Get the kids involved! Explain what gratitude is to them & have them come up with their own gratitude list! Have them draw out what their grateful for to spark creativity!
Are you a mom who takes care of everyone else but neglects yourself?
Don't let "mommy Guilt" rob you of your joy as a mother! Conquer it now!
Mommy guilt SUCKS! As a Mom of Twins, I know how it can make you feel like a “bad mom”. Whether you are beating yourself up over the formula vs. breast milk or disposable vs. cloth diapers, mommy guilt can take a toll on your self-confidence & decrease the joy of motherhood, especially for a new mom! Below are my 3 tips to conquer mommy guilt.
Remember that it is all in your head
It really is! Although a healthy level of second guessing is good, because you don’t want to throw the children to the wolves, it is important to understand that much of your “guilt” is either due to uncontrollable things or things that in a few years won’t much matter. Unless there are certain medical conditions, whether you use disposable diapers or cloth diapers, it will not matter once you get to the point where you are potty training.
Understand that you really are a GREAT MOM!
You truly are! I am sure that if you were to ask you kids, when they aren’t mad but calm, then they would agree! You keep them fed, clothed, and safe! In addition, you allow them to participate in things they enjoy; be it the soccer team or just throwing toys around the room before you have them clean it up! You are stellar at what you do, and that should be recognized! Don’t let mommy guilt get you discouraged!
In 10 years, your kids will only remember the good things!
In addition to remembering the ridiculously funny things that happened in their childhood, they will remember the cupcakes you made for their class and Christmas when they got exactly what they asked for! They will not remember whether you rocked them to sleep or let them cry it out, or whether their first solid food was a cookie! They won’t even remember the day you allowed them to only eat apples all day because they refused to eat anything else! Ultimately, you are worrying about things that will not matter in 10 years or sometimes even one year which is keeping your from enjoying life as a mom now!
Untamed Mommy Guilt can rob you of your joy as a mom and leave you with low self-confidence! Don’t do that to yourself! Focus on what you are doing great as a mom & how happy your kids are! Every “I love you, Mom” or hug you get from your child is a great signal that you are an AWESOME MOM doing a STELLAR JOB!
I’d love to talk to you specifically about how mom guilt is affecting your life & ways to overcome it!

I hope you're enjoying your Summer! I know that I am loving the idea of free time with my husband and kids! The twin's aren't at the age where they will be engaging in summer camps but I know that we plan to do some traveling & some "stay-cations"! So, it got me to thinking: How can I make this summer easy for me & my family! Because the summer can be a hectic time with traveling, changes in kids schedules & a variety of family activities; today, I want to give you 3 tips on getting through the summer, STRESS FREE with your sanity!
Tip #1: Map out your schedule & Put everything on it
I do mean everything! The more you can plan out & put on paper, the less stressed you'll be! This is because the simple act of looking at a calendar and not having to worry if you are missing anything, is a powerful stress reliever.
Tip #2: Make a Monthly Food Schedule
The last thing you want to do is worry about whets for dinner! Taking a couple of days to plot out what you will eat for the rest of the month can help save you time & money, in addition to decreasing your stress! It also doubles as a tool for grocery shopping because you know exactly what you need for the month.
Extra Bonus: Plan for crock pot type meals on days when you're busiest. You can literally "set it & forget it"! Run errands then return home to a wonderfully smelling house!
Tip #3: Take advantage of online ordering
You already spend quite a bit of time online right! Whether it is waiting in line at the post office or waiting for the kids at soccer practice you are likely using your phone to pass time. So, why not use your phone to help you save time? This day and age you can do almost anything online, including grocery shopping. Save time by ordering your groceries online then picking them up while your running errands. You avoid long grocery store lines & save time by planning ahead.
Extra Bonus: You also avoid the impulse to get cookies and ice cream if you shop when you're hungry, like I do!
Don't let the kids be the only one's enjoying the summer! Enjoy yours too!
